Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Hearless collects, how your audio is handled, and the choices you have.

Last updated: 2026-10-10

The short version

  • You sign in with Google. We store your email, name and profile photo, and your minute balance.
  • When you transcribe a voice note, the audio is processed by OpenAI via our servers to turn it into text. We don’t store the audio or the transcript.
  • Text you create with voice typing is stored on our servers to run the feature.
  • Your transcript history stays on your phone, not on our servers.
  • We use analytics and crash reporting to improve the app. Session recording is off unless you opt in.
  • You can delete your account in the app, and email us to delete other data.

What we collect

  • Account details. When you sign in with Google, we receive and store your email address, display name and profile photo.
  • Your minute balance and purchases. Stored with your account so your minutes follow you when you sign in.
  • Voice-typing text. Text produced when you use voice typing is stored on our servers so the feature works and isn’t billed twice.
  • Feedback. If you send feedback from the app, we store your message, email and app version.
  • Usage and diagnostics. Analytics events, crash reports and performance data (see “Analytics and crash reporting”).

How your audio is handled

When you transcribe a voice note or an audio file, or use voice typing, the audio is sent to our servers and to our speech provider, OpenAI, to turn it into text. We don’t store the voice-note audio or its transcript on our servers. Audio is recorded for voice typing only after you tap the mic.

What’s stored on your phone

Your transcript history and your app preferences are stored on your phone only. They are not synced to our servers, which also means they’re lost if you uninstall the app or switch phones. You can delete history in the app’s Library.

Who we share data with

We use these services to run the app:

  • OpenAI — speech-to-text processing of your audio.
  • Google Firebase — sign-in, your account record, analytics, and crash reporting.
  • RevenueCat with Google Play Billing — to sell and restore minute packs.
  • PostHog — product analytics, and optional session recording you can turn on or off.

Analytics and crash reporting

  • Firebase Analytics records app events and your account’s anonymous ID to help us understand usage.
  • Firebase Crashlytics records crashes and errors.
  • PostHog records product events and identifies you by your account ID and email. Session recording is off unless you opt in, and when on, on-screen text is masked.

Permissions the app uses

  • Internet — to transcribe audio and run sign-in, purchases and analytics.
  • Microphone — for voice typing; it records only after you tap the Hearless mic.
  • Accessibility (voice typing) — to find the text field you’re typing in and insert your dictated text. It does not read, store or share anything else on your screen.
  • Billing — for one-time minute packs through Google Play.

Deleting your data

You can delete your account in the app under Profile → Delete Account. This removes your account and minute balance. It does not remove voice-typing text stored on our servers, or history saved on your phone. To delete those, see the data deletion page or email us.

Children

Hearless is not directed to children. TODO: confirm the minimum age and Play target-audience declaration.

Changes

We’ll update this page if our data practices change, and revise the date above.
